Ah, crazy Monday. Posting time is precious, and lunch has arrived, so pardon my potential brevity.
So, I saw Spider-Man on Friday night… along with Amie, Matt, Mary, Hollis, Steve, and the rest of the entire country. 114 million dollars? Crickey. Shattered every existing record. Though it was probably the best super-hero flick I’ve seen, and I enjoyed the hell out it, I was a little disappointed in the dialogue. Painful at times… took me right out of the film. Yeah, it’s a ‘comic book movie’, but that’s no excuse for falling back on cliches. Have Brian Bendis or Joss Whedon give the final script a once-over on the sequel, will ya?
Pedro the Lion was excellent on Saturday night… probably better than the other two times I’ve seen ’em. Full band, second guitarist, great new songs, solid crowd but not overwhelming. I walked in just as they started ‘Indian Summer’, my favorite song off the new cd. They played some older stuff and a new song from the a Jade Tree sampler, which I promptly ordered up. ‘Backwoods Nation’. Biting lyrics about frat boys and rednecks. Just my kinda thing.
Strolling Through Somerville…
Judging by the steady turnout at Dan and John’s exhibit, the Somerville Open Studios was a definite success. There was a literal army of guide-holding art gawkers wandering around the streets on Saturday and Sunday, and a lot of them were buying Dan’s cards and books straight out of his open living room. As well they should have been… it was wonderful work. Congrats to both John and Dan on a great showing.
For Once, the Bankers are Buyin’…

Motoring Around Mars…
Planet 3D is a little program that allows you to simulate driving around on the surface of Mars. Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s free, and the screenshots looks interesting.
