A few interesting music-related events are happening today…
The Silence Heard ‘Round the ‘Net…
Net Radio Falls Silent Today
To protest a proposed (crippling) royalty charge system for internet broadcasting, hundreds of online radio stations will go silent for the day. But will anybody listen? Let’s hope.
A Commanding Debut…
Tonight at the Abbey Lounge in Inman Square, Somerville, catch the debut performance of my friend Keira’s band The Mary Reillys. She’s the drummer, and she so rocks.
In the ‘small world’ department, this show marks the first night of the May residency of bands that are part of the Handstand Command Music Collective. They’re celebrating their 2nd anniversary by putting on a show every Wednesday this month, and inviting friends to play with ’em.
So, why does this make the world smaller? Well, Heath’s band, the Anchormen, is part of the collective. You’ll be quizzed on the connection later.
Mr. ‘Mats is Back…
Tonight. 7pm. Virgin Megastore at Mass. Ave. and Newbury in Boston: the one and only Mr. Paul Westerberg. My love for the Replacements was unbridled, yet my love for his solo material is, uh, a bit bridled? Granted, I haven’t heard any in years, so perhaps it’s time to give his new Vagrant cd “Stereo” a shot. If I can swing it, I’ll be there this evening to bow down.
Daily Planner…
Kristin Hersh tomorrow at 608, Spider-Man opens Friday, Pedro the Lion plays Saturday, 2-years since finding Amie on Sunday. May is out of the gate at breakneck speed.
