I love this time of the week… that last couple hours of the friday workday. The slow build of weekend-centric conversation in the offices around me, the bustle of folks cutting out early, the decrease in phone calls and work-related emails.
Ahhh.. the anticipation of a couple days off… filled with rock shows, friends, relaxation, reading, cleaning, exercise… not necessarily in that order. All of that is on the agenda for this last weekend of January.
So, I wanted to go to new york this weekend. Badly. A guaranteed good time will be had by many fine folks at a little nyc bar on saturday… and I will only hear the stories. Damn you, distance. Damn you, energy-sucking work week. Damn you, much-needed house cleaning. Give me an extra day or two off, and I’d be there. But I need to stay home… I need to relax, recharge, refuel. As fun as nyc would be, I’d be drained come monday. And that is not a good thing, as I need to be on the top of my game here at work.
You see, there’s no ‘floating by’ here… there’s a constant stream of information being fed into my dusty brain, and I need to be sharp. So, have fun for me. Celebrate wood’s birthday as only you can. Lucky bastards.
Ah, the obligatory links. You knew they were coming, didn’t you? Unavoidable, really.
Australia Gets Drunk
heh. The maps are the best part.
GIR speaks
Curse you Nickelodeon, for cancelling your only good show. Ah well, one less network to pay attention to. You complete idiots. I mean, where is the logic in this? Check out this very sad account of how the cancellation went down, according to the person who voices Gir on the show, and does a bunch of the animation. If you’re a fan, or just a fan of unique, brilliant cartoons, go here to sign a petition. Not that it’ll do any good. Thick-headed network execs never listen.
increase your IE connections
Don’t you hate it when you try to download more than 2 songs at once from links in internet explorer, and you just can’t? Well, you can change that. Turns out that the ‘2 connection’ limit is an arbitrary one set by windows, so you can follow these easy instructions and tweak your system to allow for as many simulateous connections as your heart desires. It increases the overall speed of your browser, too. Cool.
convert pictures to html
A neat little web-based tool for converting graphic files into html code. Thanks, M@.
Spokane @ Epitonic.com
Just discovered this guy on Spinner…I’m actually listening to him right now. His name’s Rick Alverson, and he calls himself and his friends ‘Spokane’. Pretty, mellow stuff that’s hitting my winter-mood just right. you can download all sorts of free stuff from Epitonic, so even if you don’t really like this guy’s stuff, you should head over there and do some digging.
Here endeth the lesson. and here comes the weekend…
