Ah, the joys of cross-country skiing. How I missed it. Many months into winter, Amie and I finally motivated and hit some trails at Smuggs up in Vermont on Saturday. Her first time (and my first in years), and she was a natural. Seriously, she handled it like a pro. Only fell once, and she tackled more than a few super-sloping hills. Didn’t even have to teach her how to turn… it just came to her. Chickenbone? Easy. Pigeon-toe? No sweat. Up and down hills like a champ.
The trails were deserted and the temps were more than tolerable. We were actually too hot, and had to lose a couple layers. I can’t wait to head back up to Bolton Valley in a couple weeks for a full day with Kate and Jim.
The evening brought a fantastic meal and some relaxing hang-time with co-workers at a rented condo on the mountain, followed by a night in Burlington at my folks place. Shout out to my Dad, who celebrates a birthday in a couple days and starts his new job as city manager of St. Albans today. No need to wish him luck, as I have no doubt he’ll manage the heck outta the place.
Speaking of birthdays, gotta wish a Happy Birthday to the one and only Miss Mary today (who really needs to do some blog updating, there :)). She’s off somewhere in the Berkshires, doing the spa thing with her mom. Chillaxin’, so to speak. (Ok, I won’t ever use that word in my blog again. Hmmm… actually, I take that back. I can’t hinder my ability to annoy you). Anyways, um, Happy B-Day, Mary!
Amie and I stopped at Matt n’ Mary’s pad on the way back to Boston yesterday, and got to meet their new arrival… Spike. 11 weeks old, absolutely insane, and uber-cute. Bear witness…
Holy crap, is he adorable or what? He’s a Schnoodle. Half Schnauzer, half Poodle. And his friends call him Schpike.
