This relatively painful week is coming to a close, and it was only made tolerable by a beautiful performance by Low on Tuesday at the Coolidge. They didn’t hit the stage until near-midnight, but I swear the show was actually improved by my seriously-sleepy state. During their longer, dronier songs, I completely spaced out and eased on into a trance that was broken by the clapping of the crowd. Plus, there was popcorn.
Why such a bad week? I think this cold/flu I’ve been fighting has started to get to my mental state as well as my physical. Run down, unmotivated, bummed out… throw in some cloudier days, and the fact that I haven’t played music in two months, and things are blah all around. Can’t seem to psych myself up to exercise, been barely draggin’ myself into work, and I didn’t even go to Cinerama last night.
The seriously depressing national news (when is it anything but?) certainly doesn’t put me on the bright side. Let’s see… a psycho-sniper randomly killing people in the D.C area, our economic troubles showing no signs of easing up, oh, and then there’s that whole impending war thing. The Dems rolled over and caved into Bush’s Iraq-nophobia, giving him the go-ahead for declaring war when the mood strikes him. Jimmy Carter needs to visit Dubya and smack him upside the head with his newly-acquired Nobel Peace Prize. Or at least make him read Get Your War On.
I need some things to look forward to. Really, I do. I’m not sure these upcoming distractions are enough, but I’ll give ’em a shot …
