Mp3s: Matt Pond PA in Boston

Matt Pond PA played the second night of their in-progress six-week North American tour here in Boston last Wednesday under far-from-ideal circumstances. As fans and most music blog readers have likely heard by now, they had nearly all of their equipment stolen after completing a stellar kick-off show at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom. The fact that they not only showed up in Boston the very next day, but played an excellent set to a packed Paradise, says an awful lot about ’em. Lesser bands would have taken at least a day or two to recover.
With opening band dios (malos) lending them amps and drums, and Gibson outfitting them with lots of guitars (the cello, thankfully, was not stolen), the five-piece treated us to older faves like ‘The Hollows‘ and ‘Measure 3‘ alongside the better songs off their latest, ‘Several Arrows Later‘. Main man Matt was pretty chatty throughout, goofing around with the crowd rather than letting the loss bring him down. We even got a brief encore, although they left before ‘Closest‘, which was last on the setlist. Bummer, that is, but the rest made up for its absence…

Matt Pond PA continues their country-wide trek tonight at The Magic Stick in Detroit, then wanders around the midwest before heading to California, Texas, and eventually back home to NYC, where they finish up at Brooklyn’s North Six in late March. Get to the shows early if dios (malos) is opening, they’re well worth it. I’ll be sharing up their set sometime soon.
For The Records saw the Toronto stop on Saturday night, so check out their write-up and some pictures right over here.
As always, the fine print: Songs recorded with a Sony ECM-719 mic into a Sony MZ-RH10 Minidisc recorder at Hi-SP/256kbps, imported as .wav files with SonicStage, edited with Soundforge, and converted to 192kbps mp3 files. If anyone associated with the band has an issue with these songs being shared, just drop me a note at the link on the left. I live to serve.
