Friday Music Miscellany

A very quick one as a long, strange week comes to an end, with some fairly exciting Boston-area rock show news…
Get your browsers ready: Two shows, both at the Paradise, go on sale tomorrow at noon: British Sea Power with the Rosebuds on Tuesday, May 13th (tix), and The Breeders on Thursday, June 5th (tix). I’ve been listening to BSP’s “Do You Like Rock Music?” non-stop this week, so I’m very psyched they’re hitting the ‘Dise.
Initial worries that Dan Bejar’s Destroyer would be skipping Boston got squashed today, with a just-added appearance at the Middle East Downstairs on Monday, April 21st. Opener is Ba Da Bing‘s Colossal Yes, and tickets will go on sale next Friday, February 22nd at 10am.
Two back-to-back shows happening next weekend that I’m fairly psyched about: Baltimore duo Wye Oak make their first Boston appearance as Merge Records recording artists on Friday night, February 22nd at the Middle East Upstairs (really looking forward to hearing their debut album in April), and former Concretes singer Victoria Bergsman brings her Taken By Trees to the Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday night. I’ll be giving away a pair of tickets to each of those shows starting on Monday.
And lastly, not show related, but impossible not to mention: The next Wedding Present album has a title: The Steve Albini-recorded “El Rey” will be out in May. Some of the songs that I’ll be obsessing over are: “Don’t Take Me Home Until I’m Drunk“, “Hulk Loves Betty“, “Santa Ana Winds“, “Spider-Man On Hollywood“, “Which Brings Me To You“, “The Thing I Like About Him Best Is His Girlfriend“, “Model, Actress, Whatever“. Hulk and Spidey? Looks like Gedge makes his Marvel.
So it was on this day, exactly eight years ago, that I registered Bradley’s Almanac as my domain name. Happy anniversary to ye olde ‘Nac. Wonder if I’ll finish the redesign before I hit the decade mark?
