Mp3s: Editors in Boston

When I heard that Birmingham’s Editors would finally be making their first trip across the Atlantic for a few U.S. dates, I wouldn’t have guessed that one of those would be at a bar just a few blocks from my house. The final stop of their introductory trip brought them to Allston’s Great Scott, where they blasted through 9 songs for a sold-out crowd…
Live at Great Scott
Allston, MA

(files removed on 4/1/2006)
1. Lights
2. Bullets
3. Blood
4. Fall
5. All Sparks
6. You Are Fading
7. Camera
8. Munich
9. Fingers in the Factories
It’s a shame that their debut disc, ‘The Back Room’ (where you can find all but one of the songs above), is still import-only and not available at shows, and that surely cost them large quantities of cash at the merch table. As it was, the t-shirts were flyin’. They’ll be returning for a full-blown North American tour this spring, starting with SxSW, and their disc sees a U.S. release on Fader / Kitchenware in April. They’ll no doubt sell tons of ’em… assuming everyone hasn’t downloaded it by then. Hopefully they’ll throw on a bunch of bonus tracks for added incentive, maybe all the extras from their U.K. singles? I’ll be grabbing it either way. Their live show was just fantastic, start to finish, and really squashed any comparisons to that oft-mentioned I-band (I swore I wouldn’t mention them here, ‘cuz Editors must be so sick of that). Seriously, while the recordings may draw obvious comparisons, the live show surpasses. Just energetically ace all around, and the crowd felt every ounce of it.

Openers The Twenty-Twos, who drove up from Brooklyn, played a pretty good set as well, and I’ll likely share up a live song or two from them sometime soon.
As always, the fine print: If anyone involved with the band has any issue with my making these live tracks available, just drop a note to the link on the left. Resist the cease and desist, askin’ works just fine.
