Paging Mr. Shields / Hellboy

The elusive (and muchly missed) Kevin Shields speaks. That little taste of his work on the Lost in Translation soundtrack was just not enough to satisfy… all we can do is hope for more. Which we’re pretty used to doing, actually.
I love finding out that MBV referred to that mind-bending breakdown during You Made Me Realise as “the holocaust”.
(and I know this article is, by now, two weeks old. What can I say? I was outta town.)
So we saw a preview of Hellboy last night, and it was just excellent. Nearly matched my dangerously high expectations. Visually right on, incorporating bits of existing Mignola stories, great casting (although it’s impossible for me to take Jeffrey Tambor seriously in anything thanks to Arrested Development). I really hope this sucker does well this weekend… goes without saying that I’d like to see a sequel or three.
Memo to the all-too-serious: It’s A Comic. Book. Movie. About a huge, red, kitty-loving, nacho-eating, horned guy. Yes, it’s a little over the top… it’s supposed to be. Yes, logic gets the short shrift at times (clothes vs. fire?), but try to ease up on the nitpicking. Do yourself and your fellow audiences members a favor and let yer imagination take over when you go.
Here’s a little treat. The Breeders, doing the Pixies’ Gigantic, with Joey Santiago guesting on guitar. If the Pixies reunion weren’t already happening, this sure would have fueled those rumors.
