Sayonara Summer

Although the calendar says the fall starts today, we all know it’s felt like it since labor day. Colder nights, swarming students, tv season premieres, Red Sox disappointment… it’s all right on schedule. But the date makes it official, and I’m welcoming the season with open arms. Better movies, lots of great albums coming out, more bands touring, and warm days like today are a gift, instead of a summertime assumption. My favorite time o’ the year, always has been, always will be. It’s part of the reason I may never leave New England. I am autumn’s bitch.
A two for one shot this time, since NYC’s Ambulance Ltd. made a couple different late-night television appearances last week, once on the Tonight Show and once on Last Call. I love that they bucked the trend and performed different songs on each show… too many bands stick to ‘the single’, the obvious choice, and repeat. Ambulance didn’t even do Primitive (their album’s single & second track) on either show, instead opting for Stay Where You Are (sans intro) and Heavy Lifting. Unsurprisingly, the Tonight Show recording sounds much better, what with the bigger broadcastin’ budget and all.
Newly Posted: Green Magnet School at Vermonstress…
The latest addition to my archiving of the 1992 Sub Pop Festival up in Burlington, Vermont is the full set by Boston’s own Green Magnet School. It’s well timed, since the band will reunite for a special show on October 7th (details in this previous post).
The first three tracks of the set come from their killer Sub Pop debut album, “Blood Music“, and here are the deets on the rest…
1.) Sonic Exterminator
2.) Noxin
3.) Barmecide Room
4.) Don’t Cry (Neil Young cover from split 7″ w/Six Finger Satellite)
5.) Singed (from Dec. ’91 Sub Pop singles club 7″)
6.) 12 Gauge (B-side of “Don’t Cry” 7″)
7.) Penance (early version of later “Illuminatus” song)
So which live set do you want to see posted next? I’ve still got Chris Harford, Giant Sand, Barbara Manning, Sloan, HP Zinker, and Eric’s Trip left to encode and edit down. I’m leaning towards one of the Canucks…
Well, it’s lunchtime, and the sunshine beckons me outside…
