Ok, I understand that Ms. Talcott here is just trying to do her job, but is something really news if it hasn’t even happened yet?
From today’s Boston Globe :
Shock tactics
Participants mobilize via website, then pull their stunts with element of surpriseBy Sasha Talcott, Globe Correspondent, 7/25/2003
In New York City, hundreds of people burst into applause on the mezzanine of the Grand Hyatt hotel at 7:12 p.m., then quickly disappeared.
In San Francisco, about 200 came out of nowhere to whirl like dervishes across Market Street, attracting confused stares from tourists.
Now, the new phenomenon called a ”flash mob” is coming to Harvard Square.
In Boston last week, an elusive organizer who goes by the screen name ”bostoncitymob” set up a group on Yahoo.com to recruit residents for the mass demonstration. Purely through word of mouth, more than 100 have signed up so far, and interest seems to be growing by the day.
While keeping details shrouded in secrecy, organizers of Boston’s first flash mob planned to convene near Harvard Square at 6 p.m. next Thursday for the stunt.
Way to go. Congratulations on sucking a little bit of the fun right out of it, you journalista, you. Sheesh.
Well, at least we got a little Howard Dean mention out of it. Probably the first Globe article that includes Dean’s name but isn’t an thinly veiled Kerry campaign advertisement. Small steps.
